New York, New York
This 28-story, 550,000 sqare foot steel-framed tower was designed by Philip Johnson & John Burgee Architects for Park Tower Realty.
Situated in downtown Manhattan, it is designed to complement its landmark neighbors including the Federal Reserve Bank and early corporate headquarters of Chase Manhattan and the Marine Midland Bank.
A circular turret motif provides corner offices at each floor with expansive views. The exterior walls are brick and limestone.
The ground floor galleria is composed of 45-foot-high brick and stone arches. The arches are laterally supported on either side of the lobby by steel columns that are part of the structural system.
The columns are designed to accept slight movement as the building responds to wind forces. The brick and stone arches were designed with a system of expansion and control joints to accommodate the movement.
